Author: | Franz Reilly (1766–1820) |
Franz Johann Joseph von Reilly (1766–1820) was an art dealer in Vienna, who in about 1789 began to make, publish and sell maps. By the end of the 18th century he had published about 830 maps, which he compiled into several atlases. Von Reilly’s map publisher’s activities were significant in two aspects: he published the first World atlas prepared in Austria and the very first post route atlas. In those two atlases the GDL territory with the oldest post routes was marked in 4 maps.
