Bronisław Jamontt was a painter and art teacher. He was born in 1886 in Dokudow near Lida. He attended drawing school in Vilnius. In 1909–1911 he studied law in St. Petersburg while intermittently continuing his art studies. In 1909 he visited Cracow and Zakopane, and became close to J. Stanislawski’s group of artists. In 1910 he returned to Vilnius and worked as a teacher of drawing. During the First World War he retreated to Poland and in 1920 returned to Vilnius. During 1920–1934 he continued his studies at the Art faculty of Vilnius University. In 1928 and 1930, while still a student, he visited Paris, Brussels, Rome and Florence. He was a member of the Vilnius Plastic Artists’ Society. In 1931 he became F. Ruszczyc’s assistant at the Landscape Painting Studio of the Art faculty of Vilnius University, and from 1937 – a professor of landscape painting. After the war he moved to Torun. He was dean of the Art faculty of the Nicolaus Copernicus University for many years. He painted only landscapes. He died in 1957 in Torun.
B. Jamontt (1886–1957) was born near Lida. He studied painting in Vilnius, St. Petersburg and Cracow and further improved his skills in Paris, Brussels, Rome and Florence. From 1931, he lectured at the Art faculty of Vilnius University and from 1937, he was a professor of landscape painting. B. Jamontt painted only landscapes, mostly with tempera and gouache on cardboard, and he sometimes used oil paints. Along with a brush, he used a spatula or cutter. From 1931, the painter was an assistant of F. Ruszczyc at the Department of Landscape Painting of Vilnius University and from 1937, a professor of landscape painting.
