Antanas Martinaitis was a painter and teacher, and the son of J. Martinaitis. He was born on 20 June 1939 in Vandžiogala, and attended Kaunas Children’s Art School between 1950 and 1957. He studied painting under Antanas Gudaitis at the State Art Institute of Lithuania from 1958 to 1964. Between 1969 and 1986, he taught at Kaunas Children’s Art School (which was renamed the Kaunas A. Martinaitis School of Art in 1996). He began to participate in exhibitions in 1965, both in Lithuania and abroad. He held solo exhibitions in Vilnius (1968, 1970, 1977), Liepaja (1973) and Kaunas (1980), and participated in group exhibitions in Italy, Latvia and Russia. Martinaitis died in Kaunas on 20 June 1986. Posthumous exhibitions of his work were held in Vilnius (1987, 1995), Kaunas (1987, 1989, 1996, 1999) and Šiauliai (1987). He was posthumously awarded the Lithuanian State Award in 1987. There are works by him in the Lithuanian Art Museum and the M.K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum.
