Head of a woman

Author: Boris Lovet–Lorski (1894–1973)

The name Boris Lovet-Lorski (1894–1973) cannot be found in books on Lithuanian art. This is no surprise, as his career began during his studies at St Petersburg Academy of Art, and after 1920 it continued in the art world of the USA. Lovet-Lorski was famous as a sculptor, but he often made lithographs of his drawings, which represented his favourite characters, modern beauties with androgynous looks, and exotic nudes whose ideal he found in Oriental, African and ancient cultures. How is this talented American Art Deco artist, who is recognised in many countries, related to Lithuania? The question is almost rhetorical. On one hand, he has not been known in Lithuania for a long time at all. On the other hand, he himself always emphasised his Lithuanian roots, because he was born in Kaunas.
