Mindaugas Skudutis was born on 8 October 1948 in the village of Antazavė in the Ignalina district. He attended the Kaunas J. Naujalis School of Art between 1964 and 1968, and from 1970 to 1976 he studied painting at the State Art Institute of Lithuania under professors Vladas Karatajus and Antanas Gudaitis. He worked as a teacher at the National M.K. Čiurlionis School of Arts from 1977 to 1987, and in 1989 he began to lecture at Vilnius Academy of Art. He became an associate professor in 1992, and a professor in 2002. He joined the Lithuanian Artists’ Association in 1980. Skudutis won the National Prize for Culture and Art in 2009, and was awarded the Gold Badge of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association. He has held several solo exhibitions, and participated in group exhibitions, symposia and plein-airs. Works by him are held by the Lithuanian Art Museum and the Museum of Vilnius Academy of Art, and have been acquired by the Church of St Mary Magdalen in Jokūbavas (in the Kretinga district), the Catholic church in Tartu (Estonia), and private collectors in Lithuania and abroad.
