Ignacy Szczedrowski, a painter and graphic artist, was born in 1815 in Žemaitija (Samogitia). He studied painting at Vilnius University under J. Rustem while at the same time he studiedlithography. When the University closed, he continued his studies at the St. Petersburg Academy of Art. In 1836 he was bestowed the title of an independent painter. After graduation he remained in St. Petersburg. He spent his last, rather miserable years of life in Moscow. He painted theeveryday life of Russian peasants, craftsmen and landscapes. He also produced lithographies. The albums of lithographies Scenes of Russian People’s Life (1839) and Here Are Our People (1846) were of such success that the artist repeated their publication several times.He died in 1870 in Moscow.
