Igoris Piekuras, a painter and teacher, was born on 18 April 1935 in Minsk. After the Second World War, he and his parents moved to Vilnius. Between 1953 and 1959, he studied painting at the Lithuanian State Institute of Art under Gudaitis, Katinas, Dilka and Karatajus. Between 1960 and 2001, he worked as a teacher at the Vilnius Justinas Vienožinskis School of Art. He began to participate in exhibitions in 1960, both in Lithuania and abroad (Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Russia) and had six solo exhibitions in Lithuania. In1966, he joined the Lithuanian Artists’ Association, and in 1986 he was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist of Lithuania. He used original photorealist and surrealist means of expression. Piekuras died on 11 November 2006.
