The painter, photographer, writer and public figure Tadeusz Malicki (1892– 1943) lived in Zakopane, explored mountain caves, and was involved with the Polish Tatry Society between the wars, leading its Zakopane division. He studied painting under Apolinar Kotowicz. He was fond of depicting Tatras and Podhale, he used motifs from mountain folk art in his ceramics, and he wrote the book (Ludzie z gór, 1939). He also visited Vilnius, and in 1934 he made a mirror-image aquatint of Stiklių Street.
