A New Map of Poland, Hungary, Walachia, Moldavia, Little Tartary & C

Author: Edward Wells (1667–1727)

Edward Wells (1667–1705) was a teacher of mathematics and geography at Oxford University. In his collection of maps A New Sett Of Mapps Of Ancient And Present Geography... (1700) he paralleled maps of classical and contemporary geography. All the maps were dedicated to the elevenyear- old Duke of Gloucester, William, his student at Oxford at that time, whose mother later became Queen Anne. The maps were intended for education and therefore were rather uncomplicated, although, due to their distinctive charm, they are popular among collectors.
