Author: Pieter Schenk (1660–1718)

Pieter Schenk (1660–1718) was a Dutch map-maker and publisher. His earliest cartographic productions were a number of maps based on Nicolas Sanson’s works and compiled in a composite atlas Atlas contractus or Atlas minor (c. 1696). About 1702 he published his atlas Atlantis sylloge compendiosa and together with G. Valck compiled several atlases. In London in 1715 he reissued Jan Jansson’s Novus atlas and entitled it Atlas Anglois. The Schenk and Valck map making enterprise also reissued a slightly changed version of the GDL map by H. Hondius.
