Veteris et Novae Polonia Magniq Ducatus Lithuaniae cum suis Palatinatibus ac Confinus descriptio...

Author: Philipp Clüver (1580–1623)

Philipp Clüver (Cluverius, 1580–1623) was a famous geographer. Born in Gdansk, he lived and taught geography at the University of Leiden. The main work of Ph. Clüver, a textbook on geography Introductionis in universam geographicam, was first issued without maps in 1624. However, by 1733, it had been reissued more than 40 times in various languages, in various countries and by various publishers. The book had four different maps which illustrated the description of Poland-Lithuania. The authorship of the maps is attributed to the author of the book, although he was neither a cartographer nor an engraver.
