French artist and engraver Bernard Picart (1673–1733), who at the age of 16 had won an award from the French Academy of Art. Later, when he moved to Amsterdam, he created a cycle of engravings (138 pieces) based on Greek myths – Neuerofneter musen tempel (Muses’ Shrine, 1731 and 1754) and a cycle of engravings in ten volumes (264 pieces) about religious rituals and beliefs of the nations of the world Cérémonies et coutumes religieuses de tous les peuples du monde (1723–1743).
