The Danckerts family: Theodore Danckerts (1640–1690), Cornelis Danckerts (1664–1717), Justus Danckerts (1635-1701) and Theodore Danckerts (1663–1727), of whom the above were the most important, were prominent print and map sellers active in Amsterdam for nearly a century. Between the years 1680 and 1700, a number of atlases were produced with maps bearing the names Justus or Theodore Danckerts. Cartographic publishing of both the Danckerts and their successors the Ottens was distinguished by the publication of undated maps and atlases compiled from such maps. The number of maps in atlases varied from 20–30 to 100–120, which made it complicated or even impossible (according to some authors) to trace not only the map issue chronology but also the number of the issues.
