The series of watercolour and pen and ink nudes from Jonas Rimša’s (19031978) Bolivian period proves that he always tried to keep ‘in shape’. He liked to make quick and light sketches. The main subjects of his pictures were nude models. Some of the scenes that he committed to paper express the typical atmosphere in his studio, while others seem to be caught from nature by accident, such as relaxing outdoors. Unfortunately, no source has so far been identified which sheds light on Rimša’s working methods, and which shows whether, when he was living in La Paso, he worked alongside his students, or whether he found other ways to hire models.
