The naked female body was undoubtedly the main point of interest to an artist who found a way to represent it from the back and the front, by including a mirror in the composition. However, if we look for signs of the period, we cannot miss the typical Soviet-era cupboard and the metal desk lamp on the windowsill reflected in the mirror. Thanks to these and other details, the picture is of mixed genre. The bare light bulb hanging from the ceiling, the mirror standing on the floor and propped against the wall, the narrow curtain over the window, and the poster in Russian about the artist’s exhibition, would all imply that this is the interior of the studio of JonaS Kuzminskis (19061985). The romantic morning mood of the nude scene is clear, but the unconcealed enjoyment is spoilt by the woman’s less than perfect figure, and a very trivial detail, the soft woollen slippers on her feet.
