Jan Gintowt-Dziewałtowski (19041980), a painter of Vilnius in the interwar period, made his own contribution to portrayals of Bernardinų Street. But unlike J. Faszowicz, he brought the subject closer and lowered the line of the horizon, thus achieving a harder and more monumental view. The street is squeezed between heavy and massive windowless walls, which are joined by an arch, and the small shapes of people look insignificant against this background. The painter set out to show the texture of the flaking masonry, the tile roofs and the pavement, and the indescribable colours of the ancient walls, in tawny, grey and cerulean tones.
