According to his fellow sculptor Mindaugas Navakas, the true embodiment of the artist’s inner state is evident in Antanas Šnaras’ (b. 1959) work. Indeed, Šnaras’ sculptures are characterised by thoughtfulness, restraint, generalisation and harmony, reflecting his inner equilibrium and his ability to translate that balance into the language of forms. The Crown consists of the motif of a human figure repeated four times, with the leaning bodies creating the illusion of a crown through repetition. The symmetrical composition further emphasises the harmony of forms. The artist associates this composition with the dissemination of a message, a message that was spread to the world through the Gospels, Jesus’ teaching, and his word, passed from one person to another. According to Šnaras, the opposite form of this dissemination of the word is dialogue; however, both forms of communication are deeply rooted in our culture.
