This landscape was painted during the last spring of Martinaitis’ life, one month before his death. The flowering garden, overflowing with vital energy, was painted in an Impressionist and spatial manner. In the centre is an old and gnarled tree, in a riot of blossom, symbolising spring and the awakening of nature. However, the picture is tinged with pain: there is much black, and dark contours rise up in twisted lines next to the grim angular houses and the silhouettes of bee hives.
