‘The Chronicle of Poland’ by the Polish historian Maciej Miechowita (14571523) consists of two parts: the first is a summary of Jan Długosz’s history from legendary times until 1480; and the second part, spanning the events of the author’s lifetime (before 1506), was written mostly by referring to private notes, and with little use of archival sources. The information about Lithuania was borrowed mainly from the works of Jan Długosz and Aeneas Silvius Piccolomini, the future Pope Pius II. A three-part work on the history of Poland by the famous Polish historian of German descent Jost Ludwik Decius (ca 14851545), a secretary to the king, was published together with this work (as a convolute).
