Ephraim The Syrian (ca 306–373) was a fourth-century Christian theologian and poet, one of the Doctors of the Church. He was canonised as a Venerable Father, and his feast day is 28 January in the Eastern Orthodox Church and 9 June in the Catholic Church. His book Parenesis, a popular collection of instructions of an educational nature, was one of the most widely read books in Ancient Rus’ and other Slavic countries. This book was published in Vilnius in 1768 based on the Moscow edition of 1652.
