Evening. From the cycle ‘India’ III

This is a different image of the world: strong dark-blue shadows, resonant colours that are intense even at night, the reflections of a fire, the white walls of the houses and fences, the high columns of light smoke, rising like pillars, in the clear sky all create a visionary image of a story in a faraway oriental country that is so vivid in the artist’s memory. Here, even ascending smoke acquires the shape of a miraculous creature.
