Adolfas Valeška (19051994) enjoyed painting still-lifes. This picture is evidence of his close spiritual affinity for members of the Ars group. Painted in vigorous brushstrokes on an almost unprimed canvas, it recalls slightly the work of Viktoras Vizgirda (19041993), and even of Antanas Samuolis (18991942). It remained in Kaunas when Valeška left Lithuania. The picture was sold after the passing away or impoverishment of its owners. This is shown by a Soviet second-hand shop label with the date 1977 on it.
