It was important for the artist to render the mood of the quietly drowsing wintery forest and to express space with the special painting devices. To that end, he created in his own way, the impression of illusion: the yellowish snow in the foreground looks puffy and palpable, while the firm trees – as if encompassed by air – move into depth, although they are vivid and dark. In such a way, a plein-air, peaceful and majestic landscape is created.
