The picture was painted during the last summer of the artist’s life. It is distinctive among V. Didžiokas’ other works by the harmony of decorative patches of colours, the perpetual peacefulness of nature and the feeling of eternity. Most probably, the painter came across this motif in the environs of Rumšiškės: from 1936, he lived in Dovainonys but remained rather reclusive. Homestead by the river was painted with subtle artistry and harmonious colourful patches and shows the painter’s special ability to produce small-size landscapes.
