Jogaila Algirdaitis, Grand Duke of Lithuania (13771401) and King of Poland (13861434), was the progenitor of the Jogailaičiai (Jagiellon) dynasty. In 1385, together with other dukes he signed the Krėva Act with the Polish nobility in which he confirmed his promise of marriage to Jadwiga, accepting the throne of KP and concluding a personal union. In 1386 in Krakow, Jogaila accepted Catholicism and was given the name Vladislav; he married the infant Jadwiga and was crowned King of Poland. In 1401, the first known Seimas convened in Vilnius to decide on implementing the union with Poland. This marked the beginning of Lithuanian parliamentarianism.
