A book about Sigismund Vasa and his uncle Charles IX of Sweden, written by the Swedish poet, translator and diplomat Jonas Werwing (1670–1715). The son of John III of Sweden and Catherine Jagiellon, the sister of King Sigismund Augustus of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Sigismund Vasa became King of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1587, thus founding the Vasa dynasty. In 1592, after the death of his father, he formally became the King of Sweden as well, and his uncle Charles was appointed regent in Sweden. The emergence of two centres of power caused the wars of the Swedish succession, which ended with the Treaty of Oliva in 1660.
