The four-volume armorial ‘The Crown of Poland’ by the Jesuit Kasper Niesiecki (1682–1744), first printed in 1728–1743 at the Jesuit printing press in Lviv, became extremely popular and made the author famous. Supplemented by other authors and expanded to 5,463 pages, the armorial was published in Leipzig in 1839–1845. Niesiecki’s armorial was also printed in the 20th century, for it is an important source of the history of noble families and their coats of arms: their constituent parts, symbols and meanings, the time and place of their appearance, and the area of their spread. Niesiecki’s armorial continues to be one of the most important sources for researching the genealogy of Lithuania’s noble families, and the frequency of quotes and references to this source can only be compared to that of the armorial by Albert Wijuk Kojałowicz.
