V. Kisarauskas differs from his colleagues. Having come from the countryside, like many of his contemporaries, he quickly shook off the trappings of nature and country life, where many Lithuanian artists looked for their inspiration. He was excited by urban European culture, from Antiquity to the present times, and therefore almost never painted landscapes. The only pictures which have survived in which he expressed his love for the countryside were painted in his youth, in the 1960s. But even in these, the tendency towards ‘Constructivist Expressionism’, to use his own words, was already evident.
