Painter Aleksander Janowicz-Czaiński (1870–?) was a member of the Vilnius Independent Artists’ Association. He painted mostly landscapes and in particular, he painted trees. In 1931, he displayed his pictures Pines by the water, Lilacs, Willow by the water, and others in the exhibition of the Independent Artists’ Society. The linden-tree is a frequent sight on a great many homesteads. Most people still remember the tree as inseparable from the scene of their native home. It evokes the warmest feelings and charms, with the beauty of its silhouette and the fragrance of its healing blossoms. Janowicz-Czaiński painted his linden tree by disclosing the splendour of its crown and the playfulness of sunlight in its lively foliage, tainted yellow with blossoms. As a symbol of majestic nature, the linden tree rises above the fragmental, modest grey buildings as if it is the guardian of the home.
