The standing cross made by Kazimieras Mockus (1870–1944), who lived in the village of Kinčiuliai in the Telšiai district, differs from other standing home crosses. Quite a large sculpture of the Crucified Christ is fixed to the slim cross with trefoiled ends of crosspieces. St Mary Magdalene is kneeling at the foot embracing the cross. The craftsman inserted a lamb (a symbol of Christ, and the forgiveness of sins) at the foot of the cross, and mounted the whole composition on a pedestal shaped like a book under seven seals. The carver was probably trying to emphasise the importance of sacrifice in man’s Redemption.
