A. Petrulis, a faithful student of J. Vienožinskis, began to paint with impressionistically tremulous brushstrokes at the prime of his independent creative activities. He sought harmony and agreement of colours. During the first postwar decade, he used an Impressionist style of painting to add spatiality to his realistic images. Later, when his work gained individuality and harmony of colouring, he created chromatic and rhythmic visions of images, and accentuated the structures of the images in the compositions and the power of creative improvisation. Throughout his life, Petrulis was noted for the subtlety and intimacy of his work.
