Mackevičius visited Venice and Florence in 1957, and it is no surprise that the subject of the picture recalls the environs of Florence. The artist used canvases of this size in Italy, and there are no more pictures of this format in his oeuvre. The picture is painted softly, in harmonious planes of colour, using a decorative resonance of contrasts between lit-up reddish colours and shady dark greens.
