This is a picture with an unusual subject for the artist: the green coastal dunes are covered with a carpet of fragile vegetation, with small patches of white sand emerging here and there. But everything in the picture is veiled in the same subtly coloured space pulsating with life. Landscapes prevail in Vitartaitė’s work. Over the last decade she has painted mostly landscapes of the Curonian Spit. She is inspired by unspoilt nature and the intricacies of artistic space: endless and unusually transparent expanses of colour, the glow of the atmosphere and reflections of light, the vastness of water, fragile flora, and the mystical secrets of constantly changing colours.
