The prayer book entitled ‘The Little Altar of the Gates of Dawn’ enjoyed great popularity in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Compiled by the priest Lucjan Godlewski, the prayer book was published at his own expense in Paris by Kazimierz Wilczyński, the publisher of the ‘Album of Vilnius’. In addition to prayers and songs, it included Józef Ignacy Kraszewski’s article ‘The Gates of Dawn’, and the informative article ‘The Further Fate and Present Condition of the Gates of Dawn’. The book has a unique history. According to a letter from the prelate Michał Krupowicz to the Marian Library in Rome which was found in the book, it belonged to a lawyer, Professor Antanas Tumėnas. When he died in 1946, his daughter gave her father’s prayer books to Krupowicz, who gifted them to the Marian monks in Rome.
