Postilla, prepared and published by Jonas Bretkūnas (1536–1602), a writer and translator of the Bible, and a pioneer of Lithuanian writing, was the first collection of sermons printed in Lithuanian for Evangelical Lutheran priests working in Lithuania. It consists of extracts from the New Testament and sermons for the entire year based on those extracts.
Postilla by Bretkūnas was the fourth book in the Lithuanian language, and the first book with illustrations. Wood engravings by an unknown Königsberg artist depict various scenes from the Gospels.
