An extensive collection of sermons, a translation of the Polish-language Postilla Polska by the famous Calvinist writer Mikołaj Rej (15051569), published by Jokūbas Morkūnas’ printing press in Vilnius. The publication was funded by Sofija Vnučkienė, the owner of the Pašušvė estate and a supporter of the Evangelical Reformed Church. A poetic foreword, a dedication to Vnučkienė, was written specially for this publication by Jonas Kazokas. ‘The Lithuanian Postil’ by Morkūnas was the Calvinist response to the Catholic Postil by Mikalojus Daukša. The book was published in Wilniuy, one of the first mentions of the name of Vilnius in Lithuanian writing. This masculine form of the place name appeared in the 16th century.
