Z. Petravičius is a realist painter. His landscapes are often ethnographic and painted with his favourite yellowish-brownish colours without any effects, and with tremulous strokes, which inject life into the picture. While preparing for the 1940 individual exhibition of his works, he began to paint more freely: the compositions of his pictures revealed the width of the fields, the horizon was lifted higher and the colouring changed gradually. Such peculiarities of painting, noticeable in this picture, eventually blossomed in his post-war works.
