The sculptures by Vladas Urbanavičius (b. 1951) are characterised by abstraction and refined forms, but the artist’s intentions go beyond mere decorative expression; his sculptures embody the quest to convey a spiritual reality through visual forms. This sculpture features two visually distinct forms melded into one, a cone balancing on a triangular support, compelling it to maintain a horizontal position. It was displayed in the Art Exhibition Palace in Vilnius (now the Contemporary Art Centre) alongside two other granite sculptures created at the Jaunystė 85 Third Baltic Triennial of Fine Art. In the same year, a small-format bronze sculpture with the same title was created (owned by Elona Lubytė), while the concrete composition Jagged emerged during a symposium at Aukštieji Paneriai, where echoes of the inclined triangle motif can also be discerned. Although at first glance it seems straightforward, the form evolves into a paradoxically intricate entity when viewed from different perspectives. Each angle reveals a distinct visual narrative, imbuing the sculpture with a multifaceted essence. As the artist explains, ‘I strive for each angle to articulate a unique dialogue, without any patterns or repetitions.’
