Walenty Romanowicz (1911–1945) made the print The Gates of Dawn and Tower Hill in 1937. The work is clear, the lines are simple and graceful, and the red inscription and the coat of arms of the city with St Christopher add a modern decorativeness to it. Romanowicz combined places in the city which are far from each other and cannot be seen from this angle. He was primarily concerned with expressing the historical and cultural identity of Vilnius, and therefore pictured the famous Catholic shrine alongside the pagan seat of power.
