The Polish painter Tadeusz Nartowski (18921971) visited Vilnius in 1938, and painted the Bernardine Church as seen from the park, focusing on the bell tower, the most splendid Gothic tower in Lithuania. Nartowski used bold masterly strokes and gentle touches of the brush in order to portray the old architecture; he also expressed the warmth of a sunny day, the play of the shadows in the trees, and the clear summer sky.
