Inspired by Vilnius’ architecture and its natural features, Michał Siewruk created woodcuts and etchings during the interwar period. In this view of the façade of Vilnius Cathedral, he rearranged the static Classical symmetry devised by the architect Laurynas Gucevičius, broke it up asymmetrically, and blocked part of it with the bell tower. He used sharply contrasting light, firm dynamic lines, and a decorative styling of clouds to create a dynamic and modern paraphrase of the central square of the city.
