Lithograph based on a drawing by Napoleon Orda, which was based on a drawing by J.C. Rossi, Napoleon Orda, ‘Album of Historic Sights in Poland’, series II, No. 75.

Napoleon Orda (18071883) studied at Vilnius University, took part in the 1831 uprising, and after its suppression fled to Paris where he studied art. He returned home to the Varacevičiai estate near Pinsk (now in Belarus) only in 1856, and then travelled around Lithuania, Byelorussia and Poland, drawing about 1,000 architectural scenes. Alojzy Misierowicz (1825–1905) made lithographs of his drawings for the book Album widokow historycznych w Polsce (Album of Historic Sights in Poland) at Maksymilian Fajans’ printing press in Warsaw. Orda published the book in fascicles, at his own expense, between 1875 and 1882. There are a few lithographs in it of now lost monuments in Vilnius, such as the palace of Barbara Radziwiłł and that of the grand dukes, which Orda made from drawings by J. C. Rossi (the image of the Palace of the Grand Dukes is reversed).
