In this picture by Jonas Čeponis (19262003), we can easily recognise the narrow Šv Ignoto Street, the artist’s favourite place in the Old Town, overlooked by the dome and a tower of the Baroque Dominican church. The style of painting here is different to his early work from the 1960s. The drawing and perspective are closer to reality, the colouring is not so Fauvist, the tones of purple and brown are more subtle, and the paintwork is smooth, without any strong strokes. The fragmented and intimate composition conveys the atmosphere of the snow-covered Old Town at night, and the narrow moonlit street, with its blank brick walls.
