The romantic Bernardinų Street, distinguished by its irregular medieval curve and the rising and falling lines of the roofs, is depicted in a picture by the Polish artist Jerz y Pawłowski (1909–1991). He chose strongly contrasting lighting, and highlighted the texture of the Old Town, the cobbled streets, wooden pavements, chipped plaster and tiled surfaces. The graphic and painting techniques match each other in this picture: the faltering and tapering line of the lithographic pencil, the play of empty and full areas, and the harmony of red and brown tones.
