Heaven and Beyond I 2016

Art album Heaven and Beyond
Compiler Dalia Vasiliunienė, authors Dalia Vasiliunienė and Skaidrė Urbonienė. Vilnius, VALIUNAS ELLEX, 2016

This book presents works from the 16th century to the present day on religious themes, reflecting the rich tradition of the mainly Catholic religious culture in Lithuanian and European art. The title ‘Heaven and Beyond’ implies that the religious theme in art is a wide concept, covering much more than just images of saints and works depicting biblical stories, or works intended for churches or for prayer. It also includes many works of art that do not have a religious aspect, but which contain references to the innumerable treasures of Christian culture.

A large number of the works in this book were displayed in the Church Heritage Museum between May and September 2016, in the exhibition ‘Heaven and Beyond. Works of religious art from the collection of Rolandas Valiūnas and the law firm Valiunas Ellex’.
