Opening of the Exhibition “Kazimieras Stabrauskas – M.K.Čiurlionis teacher”

The event series “Čiurlionis inspires” dedicated to the 140th birth anniversary of M. K. Čiurlionis will culminate with the opening of a special exhibition “Kazimieras Stabrauskas – M. K. Čiurlionis teacher”. It will take place in Kaunas, at the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum, on the 24th of September, 5 pm. The exhibition will contain works from the collections of „Valiunas Ellex“, dr. Jaunius Gumbis and Rolandas Valiūnas.

If not K. Stabrauskas, today we could only wonder if we had Čiurlionis. At the exhibition of the greatest Lithuanian artist's teacher, held for the first time, his symbolist ideas will be revealed that had inspired Čiurlionis in their time. Visitors of the exhibition will be able to look for the key to the work of the artist, who has left the sharpest footprint in the Lithuanian culture, in the works of his teacher and to feel the worldview uniting the artists, to get to know their philosophical and aesthetic views.

The exhibition comprises these works of “Valiunas Ellex” collection: Portrait of a dark-haired lady (ca. 1898), Under a green canopy (1901), Nude: Dawn (1902), Standing nude (1907), Mounds. From the cycle “Audra” (Storm) (19071910), A tomb among the trees (1900s–1910s), Blue lotuses (ca. 1925), Pool in a villa (19241927), Nude against a fantasy forest (1927), Boats (date unknown), Emerald staw in Villa d'Este (date unknown), Tunisia (date unknown)
